Solidarity in Weakness

Joy is hidden in compassion. The word compassion literally means "to suffer with." It seems quite unlikely that suffering with another person would bring joy. Yet being with a person in pain, offering simple presence to someone in despair, sharing with a friend times of confusion and uncertainly ... such experiences can bring us deep joy. Not happiness, not excitement, not great satifaction, but the quiet joy of being there for someone else and living in deep solidarity with our brothers and sisters in this human family. Often this is a solidarity in weakness, in brokenness, in woundedness, but it leads us to the center of joy, which is sharing our humanity with others.

약함 안의 일치

기쁨은 긍휼 안에 숨겨져 있다. 긍휼이라는 단어는 문자적으로 ‘함께 고통한다’는 의미이다. 이것은 완전히 다른사람과 함께 고통받는 좋은 않는 것이 기쁨을 가져오는 것이라는 것을 보여준다. 고통 안에 사람과 함께 하고, 절망 안에 누군가에게 단순한 현존을 나누고, 혼란과 불확실성의 시간을 친구와 함께 나눔에도 불구하고.. 그러한 경험은 우리에게 깊은 기쁨을 가져다 줄 것이다. 행복이 아니라, 흥분이 아니라, 큰 만족이 아니라도 누군가를 위한 존재의 지극한 기쁨은 이런 인간적인 가족안의 우리 형제와 자매와 함께하는 깊은 일치감 안에 살아있다. 자주 이것은 약함 안의 일치, 깨어짐 안의 일치, 상처받음 안의 일치이다. 그러나 이것은 다른 사람들과 인간애를 나누는 기쁨의 중심으로 우리를 이끈다.
