Being Sister and Brothers of Nature

When we think of ocean and mountains, forests and deserts, trees, plants and animals , the sun, the moon, the stars, and all the galaxies as God's creation, waiting eagerly to be "brought into the same glorious freedom as the children of God" (Romans 8:21), we can only stand in awe of God's majesty and God's all-embracing plan of salvation, It is not just we, human being, who wait for salvation in the midst of our suffering; all of creation groans and moans with us, longing to reach its full freedom.

In this way we are indeed brothers and sister not only of all other men and women in the world but also of all that surrounds us. Yes, we have to love the fields full of wheat, the snowcapped mountains, the roaring seas, the wild and tame animals, the huge redwoods, and the little daisies. Everything in creation belongs, with us, to the large family of God.

 

자연과 형제와 자매 되기

우리가 대양과 산, 숲과 사막, 나무, 식물과 동물, 태양과 달, 별과 하나님의 창조의 은하계를 생각했을 때, 기다리게 되는데 "하나님의 자녀로서 영광스러운 자유를 동일하게 누리게 되기를"(롬 8:21), 우리는 단지 하나님의 전능하심에 놀라움으로 서고 하나님은 구원의 계속으로 모든 것을 안으신다. 이것은 단지 우리의 고통의 한 가운데서 구원을 기다리는 존재로서 우리 인간존재만이 아니다. 창조의 모든 것이 우리와 함께 신음하고 한탄하며 가득찬 자유에 이르기를 갈망하고 있다.

이러한 방식으로 우리는 사실 형제요 자매인데 모든 다른 세계 속의 남자와 여자들만이 아니라 우리를 둘러싼 모든 것에 대한 것이다. 그렇다. 우리는 밀로 가득한 밭과 꼭대기가 눈으로 덮힌 산맥들, 으르렁대는 바다와 광야와 가축들과, 거대한 적색목재와, 작은 데이지꽃을 사랑해야 한다. 창조 안에서 모든 것이 우리와 함께 속해져 있고, 하나님의 거대한 가족의 일원으로 존재한다.

   우리는 너무 우리 인간중심적인 사고로 살아온 것은 아닌지 되돌아 보게된다. 창조세계의 모든 피조물들이 다 하나님의 구원의 때 자유를 기다리고 있는 것이다. 실낙원의 이 땅에 주님의 날이 속히 임하기를 기도하며 오늘도 살아야 할 것이다.
