The task of Reconciliation

What is our task in this world as children of God and brothers and sisters of Jesus? Our task is reconciliation. Wherever we go we see divisions among people- in families, communities, cities, countries, and continents. All these divisions are tragic reflections of our separation from God. The truth that all people belong together as members of one family under God is seldom visible. Our sacred task is to reveal that truth in the reality of everyday life.

Why is that our task? Because God sent Jesus to reconcile us with God and to give us the task of reconciling people with one anothers. As people reconciled with God through Jesus we have been given the ministry of reconciliation(see 2 Corinthians 5:18). So whatever we do the main question is, "Does it lead to reconciliation among people?"

화해의 일

이 세상에서 하나님의 자녀와 그리스도의 형제 자매인 우리의 일은 무엇일까? 우리의 일은 화해이다. 우리가 가는 곳이 어디든 우리는 사람들 사이에 분열을 본다 - 가족, 공동체, 도시, 국가, 대륙 들 안에서. 그러한 모든 분열은 우리가 하나님으로 부터 분리된 것의 비극적인 반영이다. 모든 사람이 하나님아래 가족의 한 멤버로서 함께 속해지는 진리는 드물게 보여진다. 우리의 희생적 일은 매일의 삶의 현실에서 이 진리를 드러내고자 하는 것이다.

왜 이것이 우리의 일인가? 왜냐하면 하나님은 예수님을 하나님과 우리를 화목케 하고자 보내셨고 우리에게 다른 사람들과 화목케 하는 일을 주셨기 때문이다. 그리스도를 통해 하나님과 화목한 사람으로서 우리는 화목케하는 사역을 부여받았다(고루 5:18). 그래서 우리가 묻는 주된 물음은, "사람들 사이에 화목을 인도할 수 있는가?"이다.
