개인주의 사회와 공동체 영성

The Fruit of Our Communal Life Our society encourages individualism. We are constantly made to believe that everything we think, say, or do is our personal accomplishment, deserving individual attention. But as people who belong to the communion of saints, we know that anything of spiritual value is not the result of individual accomplishment but the fruit of a communal life. Whatever we know about God and God's love, whatever we know about Jesus-his life, death, and resurrection-whatever we know about the Church and its ministry, is not the invention of our minds asking for an award. It is the knowledge that has come to us through the ages from the people of Israel and the prophets, from Jesus and the saints, and from all who have played roles in the formation of our hearts. True spiritual knowledge belongs to the communion of saints.	Communal - 공동사회 deserving - 마땅히 받을 만 하다. attention - 주의, 친절, 배려 invention- 발명품, 발견
우리의 공동체 삶의 열매 우리의 사회는 개인주의를 격려한다. 우리는 끊임없이 모든 것이 우리가 생각하거나, 말하거나, 혹은 행하는 것이 우리의 개인적 성취를 이루어야 한다고 믿도록 만들어지고, 마땅히 개인적인 배려를 받아야 한다고 믿는다. 그러나 성인들의 공동체에 속해진 사람들은 우리가 알듯이 영적가치의 어떤 것이든 개인적 성취의 결과가 아니라 공동체 삶의 열매라고 알고 있다. 우리가 하나님에 대해 하나님의 사랑에 대해 알고 있는 무엇이든, 우리가 예수에 대해 아는 것이 무엇이든-그의 삶, 죽음, 그리고 부활- 우리가 교회와 그 사역에 대해 아는 것이 무엇이든, 우리의 생각이 보상을 요구한 발견이 아니다. 이것은 세대를 통하여 이스라엘사람들과 선지자들로 부터, 예수님과 성인들로부터, 그리고 그것은 우리의 마음을 형성하는 역할을 해온 모두로 부터 온 것이다. 진정한 영적지식은 성인의 공동체에 속해진 것이다.
